Clients:  Opportunities for individuals with a disability.
Services:  Work First Inc. is a place for individuals with disabilities to learn skills for a work environment and skills they can use for home.
Work First Inc. shows individuals how to do work in its thrift shop and at various other places in the community, including Wal-Mart and at Everyone's Resource Depot at the University of Maine at Farmington. Work First Inc. also teaches some individuals how to manage things at home, like washing dishes, food safety, and home safety. Work First also teaches individuals that have a more challenging disability, like speech problems or ambulatory problems, how to say things or identify what they may need with pictures. Work First also provides day services for those who cannot get out of a wheelchair because of a disability. There are levels of needs for the individuals who need help. Assistance that individuals may need ranges from a little bit of help to a lot of help with work or other daily skills.
Work First Inc. helps to promote independence for adult individuals with developmental disabilities.
Volunteer Opportunities: To work with individuals in reading and crafts on a one-on-one basis. To sort and iron clothing in the thrift shop.
Required training: Varies-desire to help individuals.
Time requirements: Work First Inc. is open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
