Clients: | The Disability Rights Center provides advocacy services to Maine citizen's with disabilities who need help with a problem related to their disability. You may be eligible for our services if: •You have a developmental disability; •You have a psychiatric disability; •You have a traumatic brain injury; •You have a disability and believe your civil rights have been violated; •You are the parent of a child with a disability and need help obtaining special education services for your child; •You have a disability and need help obtaining assistive technology. (Examples of assistive technology include: wheelchairs, communication devices, electronic door openers and prosthetics); •You receive SSI or SSDI, and need help with benefit-related issues due to active or anticipated employment; •You are a resident of the Riverview or Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Treatment Centers; or, •You have questions about your right to vote and/or accessible voting. |
Services: | Disabability Rights Center’s mission is to advance and enforce the rights of individuals with disabilities. In working with and on behalf of people with disabilities, the center is committed to the principles including people with disabilities can make choices and are entitled to enjoy life’s benefits as full and equal members of Maine’s communities. DRC Provides the Following Services: •Information and Referral; •Individual Advocacy; •Legal Representation; •Legislative Advocacy; •Education and Training; and, •Assistance with Self-Advocacy The DRC welcomes calls from people with disabilities inquiring about their legal rights. However, the DRC does not advise landlords, schools, businesses or providers of accommodations or services. |
